I love teaching. I've always loved helping people learn in the martial arts mostly as I've appreciated so much the help I have got from those above (and sometimes below) me when training.
It's a great feeling seeing your students improve, the smiles on their faces when they compete, and it rarely matters whether they win or lose just the fact they put in the hard work leading up to the event, had the courage to overcome their nerves and compete is a huge accomplishment for most.
As students move up the ranks and they themselves start to teach they get a sense of the same. Now at a time where the improvements are more subtle and their training more intense its satisfying to spend a little time giving back.
It's not all glitz and glamour running your own school as a full time coach though. It's a lot of pressure and long hours often for little pay but the pleasure of doing what you love for a living makes up for it. Speaking of which the guys and girls are starting to arrive so its back to the mat for me.
